April 17, 2013 budget CUTS proposal item #3, 10, and 14 are CCFR items slated for budget cuts.
#3 "Fire Service Reduction including training, reduce programs that impact overtime, revise staffing (elimination of one FTE, who is yet to be determined. This would be a LAYOFF) our budget has been cut so deep in the past, that we are really only down to very important training topics, Firefighter safety related items ( I can explain better in person), the overtime reduction; let me explain some courses are too long to do on shift. Because we are constantly being pulled away for emergencies, the training must be done off shift. ~ $163K
#10 "Eliminate Fire Safety Programs" one of our most important missions is prevention of fires for obvious reasons. This small item SAVES the public and community from un-measureable loss. $3500
#14 "Eliminate funding for Fire Admin Position" yes this is the only current vacancy. It is an admin clerk I position. Although it appears small, you have to realize we have very small over head for our mission. So, by removing this clerk. The Chief Officers are answering the telephone, signing for UPS packages, and constant interruptions that the clerk usually handles. $64,800.

So out of the cuts to all General Services the $1 million, the Fire Department is taking 23% of the impact of the entire city.
In the 2012 CBJ Budget Survey; I understand there maybe some different in the point of view on where to do budget cuts. The public opinion was clear. 83% of those surveyed said they are very opposed to any cuts to the Fire Department.
